Why Do We Care?

Why Do We Care?

Lately, I was at a meeting of the German Institute of Foreign Affairs, also known as "Ifa", and I found out that "co-creative" is the new buzzword. Then I attended the Rituals of Care at Gropius Bau, listened to the trailer of a new podcast from ARTS BLACK about care, one of my favourite articles of 2019 is also by ARTS BLACK founder Jessica Lynne about art criticism and intimacy, and today I read an interview with curator Jesi Khadevi talking about the importance of care in her curatorial job.

"Care" is obviously the new thing to do and I myself just used it this week in a job application together with the words "sharing" and "generosity". Are the 2020s the decade of care in art instead of egomania in curating and blabla-I-want-to-get-somewhere-art criticism?

It seems to be a great trend but I must admit that all this care also gets a bit on my nerves. It would almost be refreshing now to read of someone in the art world who doesn't care or doesn't give a fuck and wants to be left alone in their creativity. Anyone?
